MATH The math day is divided into four components: The Meeting, Fact Practice, New Concept and Guided and Written Practice. -
The Meeting: This is an exciting way children practice their skills pertaining to calendar, counting, patterning, temperature, graphing, time, money, place value, and problem solving. This meeting is held each morning for approximately 15 minutes. As the year progresses, the students become the facilitator of this math meeting! -
Fact Practice: This is a time when number fact strategies are introduced through the use of recognizing patterns. Facts are practiced by using manipulatives, fact cards, and fact sheets. Children also practice their facts orally. It is strongly encouraged that you practice math facts with your child every night. -
New Concept: New objectives are introduced later in the day. These lessons are taught through the use of manipulatives, engaging in discussions and working in cooperative groups to encourage children to help each other learn. -
Guided Class Practice and Homework: Each lesson has an in-class guided practice (Side A) component as well as an independent homework written practice (Side B). Each side includes previously taught material along with the new concept introduced that day. Math homework will be given once a week beginning in October. For additional practice, your child can login to Classlink from home and access Saxon Math from their launchpad. For extra practice at home, visit some of these sites.
