     Read, Read, Read!

      In third grade, we incorporate chapter books into our reading blocks through whole group, small group or literature group settings. We also use our anthologies.  These are based on themes with fiction and non-fiction stories.  

      Students also read at their appropriate reading levels using our leveled book boxes. These books may be read independently during a component of The Daily Five.  This is an opportunity for the students to independently read a book of their interest at their designated reading level.  This will help your child grow in his/her vocabulary and also increase reading fluency; all with the goal of building comprehension and a desire to read!

      In addition, we have our state ELA test in April.  Although we work on the skills and components of our ELA program throughout the year, we also spend some time preparing the students for their first ELA test.  This includes taking practice tests, grouping our students according to their specific needs and small group instruction.
